🌠 The 1st to the 9th day of the Ninth lunar month is the birthday of the Northern Dipper Nine Sovereigns, also known as the Nine Emperor Gods. They preside over the nine stars of the Northern Dipper (Tan Lang, Ju Men, Lu Cun, Wen Qu, Lian Zhen, Wu Qu, Po Jun, Zuo Fu, You Bi). These nine stars were born from Doumu, and the Chong Yang Festival on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month is also the sacred birthday of Doumu.
🌱 During the period of the Nine Emperor Gods’ Birthday, devout men and women keep a pure heart and abstain from meat, maintaining purity of body, speech, and mind, refraining from killing, and sincerely worship the Dipper and recite sutras to dispel disasters, resolve difficulties, and pray for blessings and longevity.
🌄 The Chong Yang Festival, also known as the Double Ninth Festival, is a day to show piety by honoring our elderly and lineage. It is also a time to pay respects to ancestors, who are the source of our good fortune, and offer protection for success in all endeavors! In ancient times, being on high ground was a way to look into the distance, symbolizing the ascension of one’s soul and spirit to return to the original heavenly home.
🏮 Over eleven days, from October 3rd to October 13th, OOSS will host a series of events to welcome the auspicious occasion of the Nine Emperor Gods’ Birthday and the Chong Yang Festival. The esteemed Guru Zhang Bu Sheng will personally lead the ceremonies with Taoist and Buddhist practices and complete the sacred ceremony with the Bei Dou Zhen Jing (True Scripture of the Northern Dipper). We will pray for the Northern Dipper Stars to dispel calamities, benefit beings in the heavens and on earth, shift constellations, and turn misfortune into blessings! You may pray for safety and prosperity for yourself and your loved ones, and for future generations to enjoy lasting success and countless blessings!
