It’s not about what “I” will benefit from participating in puja events. “I” wish that my children enter university, “I” wish for my children’s health, “I” wish for more wealth…

You see, by doing so you are not really participating in puja. Instead, you are making calculations according to the ways of this world. Suanshu (Chinese for calculation).Suan as in calculation, Shu as in technique. How much can I earn back? This is being calculative. So where is the righteous Dharma?

To organise and participate in a puja with the right intention, it is to do so in emptiness and compassion. And this is called the Union of Emptiness and Compassion.

The moment you are in the Union of Emptiness and Compassion, “shining in his brilliance by transformation, are countless Bodhisattvas and infinite Buddhas”, through Yidam Cultivation to manifest innumerable small Yidams, either in the form of Green Tara, or Vajrasattva, or Mahamayuri, these Yidams can spiritually liberate sentient beings everywhere in Buddhist cosmology, is this not perfect?

Rather, you only pray for your children, parents, and yourself. You are too insignificant, no? In this ceremony, you have also restrained your blessings, not to mention accumulating merits.

Only when you are in the union of emptiness and compassion, without considering your sponsorship, only do your best, even if it is $10 of value. One could sponsor a sum as large as $3000 or even $5000, if one is willing and capable. If one is not scheming or expecting anything in return. If one does not expect anything in return but instead, only wish for spiritual liberation of all sentient beings, one’s prayers will be answered all at once.

All the karmic debts and other issues will be resolved. Is this not even better? Reaching every corner of the Buddhist cosmology, offering a grain in the Buddhist cosmology, by manifesting countless offerings for every possible location in this cosmology, the same applies to a joss paper offering, the number of merits accumulated in the process is beyond imagination. This is the effect of uniting Emptiness and Compassion.
